Wood You Like to Craft... My Project!

It's time for....
Wood you like to craft?

It's finally here!  I can't wait to kick off this party.  Today I will be sharing the full tutorial for my project.  I just wanted to take a second to remind you of what will be happening this week...

Monday (March 7th) - full tutorial of my project.
Tuesday through Thursday- Guest posts from the other three blogs sharing their take on the craft.
Friday- Link party opens so you can share your creation too.
The link party will be open through the following week to give everyone time to get their craft done.
Following Sunday- Feature post from the link party and a sneak peak of next months craft.  There is also a prize!

So....would you like to craft up my project?!!!   Let's get started!

Materials needed:

  • 1/4 inch thick MDF Board. I cut mine at 18x18.
  • Vinyl decal Pattern (some subs for this are paint, rub-ons or cut out paper on cricut)
  • Vinyl decal numbers
  • 6x6 castine (Middle wood square...You can find these at Home Depot/Lowes fence section)
  • Spray paint
  • Black ink pad
  • Ribbon
  • Gorilla Glue

Grab a piece of 1/4 inch MDF and cut it 18x18.  If you don't have the supplies to cut wood I know Home Depot will cut a piece for you this size.  Sand and paint.  Let it dry.

Pick out a design.   I went to http://www.dafont.com/ and used one of their dingbats called Free Tiles.  Check it out there are tons of other great designs.

My husband recently bought me a vinyl machine so I cut this design out in vinyl.  For those without a vinyl machine you could use a rub-on, print it on scrapbook paper, paint the design or use your cricut.

Next I applied my vinyl to my 18x18 board.

This next step is optional.   I traced around my board with a pencil and cut out the outline on my scroll saw.  This project could also be cut with a jig saw or just leave it square.

I then sanded my edges and inked them with a black ink pad.

Finally grab your 6x6 castine and paint it.  A castine is sorta like a fence topper.  In fact you could use a fence topper.  I am finding that different Lowes don't all carry castines.  This is what mine looks like...

I did a little more sanding, inking and added vinyl with my house number.  Glue the castine to your board with gorilla glue.  I decided to hang my sign by ribbon.  This project would look great on your front porch...

Your door....

Or even your front entry way...

I can't wait to show you what Krystal, Wendy, Candace & Nicole have done with this project!!!

***I will still be doing my Monday giveaway.  A new giveaway and a winner will be posted tonight!***

  1. Hi Melinda! This is so cute! Candace and I are busy doing our finishing touches for ours today and so excited to share! We've had more than a couple of our local gals wanting to get in on this project ask where and if they can purchase the vinyl cut out from? Are you going to be cutting any extra out to sell? Any info would be great! Thanks so much!

  3. I love it! I just can't even imagine where I would put it... even though you gave great ideas... maybe if I could build something to hang it on like you did in the first pictures... that could go on my front porch... not sure if I could build it on my own though... hmm... what to do...
