As promised here is my distressed wood finials tutorial...
First you need to collect some materials. I like both Lowe's & Home Depot but for this project I would stick with Lowe's. Lowe's seems to be the only home improvement store carrying the finials at this point. When you get to Lowe's head into the section where they have the stair railing materials (not sure of exact terminalogy for this section?). You will find the finials, buns & legs I used in my project there.
If I do this project again I will grab the 6" traditional table leg. Way cuter than my 7" leg. After you grab those pieces head over to the fence section. You will find the 4x4 & 6x6 Castines there. The fun thing about this project is there is a variety of pieces to choose from. Be creative. If you're a *little* nervous to try something new these are exactly the pieces I used....
Grab your Gorilla glue and drill. I pre-drilled my pieces. Occasionally there would be piece that didn't have a screw. On those pieces (such the 4x4 castine & the 6x6 castine) I used gorilla glue to hold them together...strong as a gorilla :) Screw your pieces together ( add a little gorilla glue in there!) as pictured below.
Spray paint your project and let dry. I then glazed my finials. Glaze the crud out of them and then wipe them off with a wet cloth.
That's it! You now have your own distressed wood finials!
