YW Idea: Word Pendant Tutorial

I love when I find ideas that would be perfect for the YW.  Today I was checking out a few blogs and found this idea from Then She Made...

This idea would be perfect for a YW activity or camp.  I love, love, love it and I'm going to make a few with my daughters just for fun!

I love the 13th Article of Faith and the Temple!

This project was really easy.  I grabbed a 2x4.  I cut a 11 inch piece and 3 3.5 inch blocks.  I sanded and painted them.  Make sure you let them dry.  I sanded my edges again.  Apply vinyl.  I cut the pictures to fit the blocks and mod podged them on the wood.  Last I inked the edges of my wood with  a black ink pad.  It was that easy!!

Flower Headband Tutorial

As I mentioned before this Saturday my daughter Emma is getting baptized.  Emma decided she wants to wear a beautiful white headband with her dress after she is baptized.  I thought I would make things easy and just buy one but every time I picked one up I thought "I could make that".  Unfortunately my husband has picked it up also so when I want to buy something he often asks "Can't you make that?".  LOL!  So we came home empty handed with a promise that mom would make her a headband.  Here is what I made...



This headband is Emma's cute personality 100%.  I love it but I have a feeling it's because I love this kid so darn much also.

Here is how I made this particular flower headband.  Draw yourself a pattern.

I set my organza over the top.  I'm using white because it's for baptism but you can use any color.

Trace the flower pattern on the organza with a pencil.

Cut out the flowers.  I think I cut out about 9.  The shape of the flowers don't have to be perfect (no one will notice when you are done).   Yes I had to convince myself of that statement too.

Add hot glue to the middle of one flower and add quartered flowers.  When I say "quartered" flowers I mean fold them in half and then fold them in half again.  Don't do this on burlap...the organize is thin and the hot glue will stick to the burlap.

Keep adding quartered flowers until your flower is to your liking.  Cut a circle piece of felt.  Hot glue the felt and flower around the headband.  I got 5 headbands at the local grocery store for about $1.50.

You're done!  Really easy and super cute.

Baptism Invitations

My daughter is getting baptized this Saturday.  We are all really excited for her!  She wanted to send invites to our family.  Just recently my sister-in-law Michelle decided to start making handmade special occasion invites.  We asked her to come up with something special for Emma...

She was super great to work with.  I love that Emma helped design her invitation....Everything from the colors, to the wording, even the style of the invite.

Emma jumped on the opportunity of having a pull out style invite.  I think it *might* be every 8 year old girl's dream!

Michelle is great to work with.  She went the extra mile and made a few different styles with coordinating paper.  Emma loves this option and chose certain invites to go to certain people.

Relief Society Printable

I was asked by a fun gal to come up with something similar to the YW Burlap Value letter for Relief Society.  She wants to frame it and share it with the ladies she visits.   This is the version that isn't personalized.  All you need is some burlap and a printer that cooperates!

Life After Laurels Idea

A few weeks ago my stake had an activity for the girls ages 16-18 (Laurels) titled Life After Laurels.  It was on a Saturday and was from 9:30 to Noon.   There was a breakfast and then speakers came and talked about subjects that would be important to the girls after they graduate high school and the young womens program.  I learned a lot! 

The topics included:

• Institute
• The young single adult program
• Living at home and going to school
• Going away to college
• Financing College/scholarships
• Financial Aid
• Banking (Getting a checking account, credit and all that good jazz)
• Car Insurance/What to do in an car accident
• Interviewing for Emplyment
• Your role in Relief Society

I made the signs below (on a large scale) as table decor and we gave them to some of the girls after the event.

I had an idea when I was setting up and brought one sign home.  Here it is.....

I made it and don't need it anymore.  It's about 6 x 24 inches.  If you're a YW leader and would like it..it's yours free. You just need to pay to ship it.  First one who leaves a comment below gets it :)  Make sure you leave a way for me to contact you.

Personalized Value Letter

My church has a great program for the young women.  I love making projects that help the YW remember what they stand for...

They help me remember what I stand for also:)  My daughter's name is Bailey.  I typed up all the info using Word Art and then printed it out on burlap.  I used this tutorial for printing on burlap.  Once you do it you are hooked.  It's just kinda amazing.  People think it's vinyl but it's not!

You will also need a piece of wood.  Mine is a 2x6 and a finial.  I found my finial at Lowes.  After you print your burlap it will look like this....

It's easier to cut and ink if you leave the freezer paper on back.

After you have completed those steps mod podge your letter onto the wood and let dry.  I spray painted my wood a cream color and inked the edges before I put the burlap on.

You're done and now you have a great gift for a YW!  If printing on burlap is scary to you (some people have emailed me and said it is) I'm selling these in my shop.

Honor & Accomplishment

Yesterday our Stake put on an activity for the Laurels (16-17 year old Young Women).  I will share more about the activity tomorrow but thought I would share part of what I made today...

The Laurel logo is laurel leaves woven into a crown.

Not a bad thing to strive for!!

Girls Camp - The Schedule

The girls at camp need a schedule. There was so much going on they needed to know where to be when. We came up with this one with a little help from Zutter's Bind-it-all.



With a little additional help from the Cricut. Even better my sister works at a paper warehouse and gave us all the chipboard for free. If you don't have a sister like that you can go to Costco and grab the big sheets they use on their pallets for free.

Here is the schedule. If someone wants to email and tell me how to turn a document into a PDF without it making my brain hurt...I'm up for it. Until then....

Every camp needs a few rules....

The girls did most of the cooking themselves this year. They would go to the kitchen, grab the food and take it back to their camp. I love the fun names for the meals the cook came up with.

A clean camp is a happy camp :)

The chart at the top of each schedule happens when you see **12:00-4:00

Some of you smart cookies might have noticed some pages are missing. They are only pages with personal information on them. At the end of the schedule book we included camp songs. Each day I made some fun decoration to go with the theme. I will be sharing those later in the week :)
